Mā Rāḥatī – What is my Rest?
Chorus 1 #
مَا رَاحَتِي
mā rāḥatī
What is my rest
إِلَّا لِقَا الْأَحْبَابْ
illā liqā’l-aḥbāb
But the meeting of the beloveds.
1 #
هُمْ سَادَتِي
hum sādatī
They are my lords.
عَيْشِي بِهِمْ قَدْ طَابْ
ʿayshī bihim qad ṭāb
My life through them has become good.
2 #
عَيْشِي يَطِيبْ
ʿayshī yaṭīb
My life is becoming good
وَيَنْجَلِي كَرْبِي
wa-yanjalī karbī
And my anguish is vanishing.
3 #
وَلِي نَصِيبْ
wa-lī naṣīb
And it is my lot,
خَلْوَةْ مَعَ الْحِبِّ
khalwah maʿa’l-ḥibb
To be secluded with love.
4 #
طَلَعَ الْنَّهَارْ
ṭalaʿa’n-nahār
The day arose,
وَأَشْرَقَتْ شَمْسِي
wa-ashraqat shamsī
And my sun shone.
5 #
وَالْكَاسُ دَارْ
wa’l-kāsu dār
And the chalice passed around
مَا بَيْنَ جُلَّاسِي
mā bayna jullāsī
Among my seated companions .
6 #
زَالَ الْغِيَارْ
zāla’l-ghiyār
The exchange ceased
بِلُطْفِ إِينَاسِي
bi-luṭfi īnāsī
By the kindness of my cordiality.
7 #
زَارَنِي الْمَحْبُوبْ
zāranī’l-Maḥbūb
The Beloved visited me,
وَأَشْعَلْ مِصْبَاحِي
wa-ashʿal miṣbāḥī
And my lamp sparked alight.
8 #
طَابَ الْشَّرَابْ
ṭāba’sh-sharāb
Liquor became good,
وَطَابَتْ أَقْدَاحِي
wa-ṭabat aqdāḥī
As did my goblets.
