Qad Kafani - (My Lord) Sufficed for me
Chorus 1 #
قَدْ كَفَانِي عِلْمُ رَبِّي
Qad kafaanee ‘ilmu Rabbi,
My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me
مِنْ سُؤَالِي وَاخْتِيَارِي
min su-aalee wakhtiyaaree
from requesting and choosing
فَدُعَائِي وَابْتِهَالِي
Fadu’aa-ee wabtihaalee,
My prayer and my supplication
شَاهِدٌلِي بِافْتِقَارِي
shaahidunlee biftiqaaree
are a witness to my impoverishment

فَلِهَذَا السِّرِّ أَدْعُو
Falihaadhas sirri -ad’oo,
By this secret I supplicate,
فِي يَسَارِي وَعِسَارِي
fi yasaaree wa ‘isaaree
in times of ease and hardship
أَنَا عَبْدٌ صَارَ فَخْرِي
-Anaa ‘abdun saara fakharee,
I am a slave who has become proud
ضِمْنَ فَقْرِي وَاضْطِرَارِي
dimna faqree wad tiraaree
in his poverty and desperation (in Allah)

يَا إِلَهِي وَمَلِيكِي
Yaa -ilaahee wa maleekee,
O My Lord, my King,
أَنْتَ تَعْلَمْ كَيْفَ حَالِي
-anta ta’lam kayfa Haalee
You know my state
وَبِمَا قَدْ حَلَّ قَلْبِي
Wa bimaa qad Halla qalbee,
And what has settled in my heart
مِنْ هُمُومٍ وَاشْتِغَالِي
min humoomin washtighaalee
from worries and preoccupations

فَتَدَارَكْنِي بِلُطْفٍ
Fataadaraknee bilutfin,
So restore me with gentle grace
مِنْكَ يَامَوْلَى الْمَوَالِي
minka yaa Mawlal mawaalee
from You, O Master of masters!
يَاكَرِيمَ الْوَجْهِ غِثْنِي
Yaa kareemal wajhi ghithnee,
O Most Generous One, save me
قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْنَى اصْطِبَارِي
qabla -an yafnas tibaaree
before I exhaust my patience (with myself)!

يَاسَرِيعَ الْغَوْثِ غَوْثًا
Yaa saree’al ghauthi ghauthan,
O Swift in granting aid! Grant me aid
مِنْكَ يُدْرِكْنَا سَرِيعًا
minka yudriknaa saree’an
from you, which will reach me swiftly
يَهْزِمُ الْعُسْرَ وَيَأْتِي
Yahzimul ‘usra wa ya-tee,
Vanquishing all difficulty, and bringing
بِالَّذِي أَرْجُو جَمِيعًا
billadhee -arjoo jamee’an
The fulfillment of all that I hope for

يَاقَرِيبًا يَامُجِيبًا
Yaa qareeban yaa mujeeban,
O Most Near! O Responder (to supplications)!
يَاعَلِيمًا يَاسَمِيعًا
yaa ‘aleeman yaa samee’an
All-Knowing! All-Hearing One!
قَدْ تَحَقَّقْتُ بِعَجْزِي
Qad taHaqqaqtu bi’ajzee,
I have realised my incapacity,
وَخُضُوعِي وَانْكِسَارِي
wa khudu’ee wankisaaree
lowliness and utter brokenness

لَمْ أَزَلْ بِالْبَابِ وَاقِفْ
Lam -azal bilbaabi waaqif,
I remain standing by Your door,
فَارْحَمَنْ رَبِّي وُقُوفِي
farHaman Rabbi wuqoofee
so have mercy my Lord on my standing
وَبِوَادِي الْفَضْلِ عَاكِفْ
Wa biwaadil fadli ‘aakif,
And so I devote myself to the valley of grace,
فَأَدِمْ رَبِّي عُكُوفِي
fa-adim Rabbi ‘ukoofee
make my devotion everlasting O Lord!

وَلِحُسْنِ الظَّنِّ أُلَازِمْ
Wa liHusnizh zhanni -ulaazim,
A good opinion (of my Lord) is binding,
فَهْوَ خِلِّي وَحَلِيفِي
fahwa khillee wa Haleefee
for He is my Close Friend, my Ally
وَأَنِيسِي وَجَلِيسِي
Wa -aneesee wa jaleesee,
My Intimate Companion,
طُولَ لَيْلِي وَنَهَارِي
toola laylee wa nahaaree
who sits with me throughout the day and the night

حَاجَةً فِي النَّفْسِ يَارَبْ
Haajatan finnafsi yaa Rab,
The need in my soul, O Lord!
فَاقْضِهَا يَا خَيْرَ قَاضِي
faqdihaa yaa khayra qaadee
fulfil it, O Best of those who fulfil!
وَأَرِحْ سِرِّي وَقَلْبِي
Wa -ariH sirree wa qalbee,
And ease my inner essence (soul) and my heart
مِنْ لَظَاهَا وَالشُّوَاظِ
min lazhaahaa wash shuwaazhi
from the burning fire inside them

فِي سُرُورٍ وَحُبُورٍ
Fi suroorin wa Huboorin,
If You are pleased (with me)
وَإِذَا مَاكُنْتَ رَاضِي
wa -idhaa maa kunta raadee
in happiness and in joy!
فَالْهَنَا وَالْبَسْطُ حَالِي
Falhanaa walbastu Haalee,
Then bliss and expansion are my state,
وَشِعَارِي وَدِثَارِي
wa shi’aaree wa dithaaree
my slogan and my covering
