Ṣafati al-Naẓra - Clear was the Vision
Chorus 1#
صَفَتِ النَّظْرَةُ طَابَتِ الْحَضْرَةُ
ṣafati al-naẓra(tu) ṭābati al-ḥaḍra(tu)
Clear was the vision, the Presence made sweet
جَاءَتِ الْبُشْرَى لِأَهْلِ اللَّهِ
jā’ati al-bushrā li-hal(i) al-lāh(i)
Good News arrived for the people of Allah.
1#
قَامُوا سُكَارَى لِذِي الْبِشَارَةِ
qāmū sukārā li-dhī al-bishārah
Drunken, they arose for the Possessor of Glad Tidings
جَعَلُوا عِمَارَةً شُكْرًا لِلَّهِ
ja‘alū ‘imāra(tan) shukran li-llāh(i)
and held an ‘imārah (hadrah) in gratitude of Allah

أَيُّهَا الْحَاضِرُ أُذْكُرْ وَذَاكِرْ
ayyuhā al-ḥāḍir(u) udhkur wa-dhākir
O you who are present, bear in mind and remind!
إِيَّاكَ تُنْكُرْ حَالَ أَهْلِ اللَّهِ
iyyāka tankur ḥāla ahli al-lāh(i)
Never deny the state of the people of Allah.

فَسَلِّمْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا عَرَاهُمْ
fassilm lahum fīmā ‘arāhum
Acknowledge their dispossession
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُمْ غَابُوا فِي اللَّهِ
wa-‘lam annahum ghābū fī al-lāh(i)
and know that they are vanished in Allah.

فَالْوَجْدُ بِهِمْ دَاعٍ يَدْعِيهِمْ
fa-al-wajdu bihim dā‘in yad‘īhim
Their state of ecstasy is a caller, calling,
يَطْرَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِي ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
yaṭrā ‘alayhim fī dhikri al-lāh(i)
seizing them in the remembrance of Allah.

وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَلْيَتَوَاجَدْ
wa-man lam yajid fa-l-yatawājad
Those who have not found, let Him expose Himself.
قَصْدًا يَتَعَرَّضُ لِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ
qaṣdan yata‘arraḍ(u) li-faḍli al-lāh(i)
Be exposed intentionally to the grace of Allah.

هَكَذَا قَالُوا وَلِذَا مَالُوا
hakadhā qālū wa-li-dhā mālū
Thus they have said and therefore swayed,
وَلَقَدْ غَالُوا فِي ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
wa-laqad ghālū fī dhikri al-lāh(i)
and went unrestrained in the remembrance of Allah.

حَتَّى قَدْ ظَنَّا مَنْ لَيْسَ مِنَّا
ḥattā qad ẓannā man laysa minnā
Till it was thought by those not of us
أَنَّا جُنِنَّا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
annā juninnā bi-dhikri al-lāh(i)
that we are deranged from the remembrance of Allah.

هَنِيئًا لَنَا ثُمَّ بَشَرَانَا
hanī’an lanā thumma bushrānā
Congratulations to us and glad tidings then,
إِنْ كَانَ لَنَا حُمْقٌ فِي اللَّهِ
in kāna lanā ḥumqun fī al-lāh(i)
if we are dim-witted in Allah!
