Ṭāba Qalbī wa-Suqī Kaʾs al-Hanā - My Heart Rejoiced and Drank the Cup of Bliss

طَابَ قَلْبِي وَسُقِي كَأْسَ الْهَنَا
ṭāba qalbī wa-suqī kaʾsa l-hanā
My heart rejoiced, and I was given the cup of bliss to drink,
وَحَبِيبُ الْقَلْبِ مِنِّي قَدْ دَنَا
wa-ḥabību l-qalbi minnī qad danā
and the Beloved of the heart has drawn near to me.
فَتَشَعْشَعْ
fa-tashaʿshaʿ
So it shone forth,
نُورُهُ فِي الْقَلْبِ بَدْرًا حَسَنَا
nūruhū fi l-qalbi badran ḥasanā
his light in the heart, a beautiful full moon.

فَصَفَا حَالِي وَنِلْتُ مِنَنَا
fa-ṣafā ḥālī wa-niltu minanā
So my state became pure, and I attained favours
وَاسِعَاتٍ يَا لَهَذَاكَ السَّنَا
wāsiʿātin yā la-hādhāka l-sanā
abundant; O how splendid is that radiance!
جُودْ أَوْسَعْ
jūd awsaʿ
A generosity most vast,
فَوْقَ إِدْرَاكِ الْأَلِبَّا الْفُطَنَا
fawqa idrāki l-alibbā l-fuṭanā
beyond the grasp of the wise and discerning.

مِنَحُ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى رَبِّنَا
minaḥu llāhi taʿālā rabbinā
Gifts of Allah, Exalted, our Lord;
جَلَّ عَنْ حَصْرٍ عَطَاهُ حَسْبُنَا
jalla ʿan ḥaṣrin ʿaṭāhu ḥasbunā
His giving is too great to be counted; He suffices us.
بِالْمُشَفَّعْ
bil-mushaffaʿ
Through the one whose intercession is accepted,
عَبْدِهِ الْمُخْتَارِ وَافَانَا الْهَنَا
ʿabdihi l-mukhtāri wāfāna l-hanā
His chosen servant, bliss has come to us.

إِنَّهُ خَيْرُ الْبَرَايَا ذُخْرُنَا
innahū khayru l-barāyā dhukhrunā
He is the best of creation, our treasure,
جَامِعَ اسْرَارِ الْمَزَايَا فَخْرُنَا
jāmiʿa srāri l-mazāyā fakhrunā
gatherer of the secrets of all virtues, our pride.
قَدْرُهُ ارْفَعْ
qadruhu rfaʿ
His rank is higher
كُلِّ قَدْرٍ بَاطِنًا وَعَلَنَا
kulli qadrin bāṭinan wa-ʿalanā
than every rank, inwardly and outwardly.

فَهْوَ مَحْبُوبُ الْإِلَهِ رَبِّنَا
fa-hwa maḥbūbu l-ilāhi rabbinā
He is the beloved of God, our Lord,
خَاتَمُ الرُّسْلِ الْكِرَامِ الْأُمَنَا
khātamu l-rusli l-kirāmi l-umanā
seal of the noble, trustworthy Messengers,
الْمُشَفَّعْ
al-mushaffaʿ
the one whose intercession is accepted
قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَافِعٍ يَوْمَ الْعَنَا
qabla kulli shāfiʿin yawma l-ʿanā
before every intercessor on the Day of hardship.

أَحْمَدُ الْمَحْمُودُ طَهَ حِصْنُنَا
aḥmadu l-maḥmūdu ṭāhā ḥiṣnunā
Ahmad, the praised, Taha, our fortress,
سَيِّدُ السَّادَاتِ طُرًّا حِرْزُنَا
sayyidu l-sādāti ṭurran ḥirzunā
master of all masters, our protection,
حِصْنْ أَمْنَعْ
ḥiṣn amnaʿ
a fortress most secure
مِنْ جَمِيعِ السُّوءِ ثَمَّ وَهُنَا
min jamīʿi l-sūʾi thamma wa-hunā
from every evil, there and here.

يَا عَظِيمَ الْمَنِّ اجْمَعْ شَمْلَنَا
yā ʿaẓīma l-manni jmaʿ shamlanā
O You of immense favour, gather us together
بِحَبِيبِكْ وَجْهَهُ رَبْ أَرِنَا
bi-ḥabībik wajhahū rabb arinā
with Your Beloved; show us his face, O Lord,
نَتَمَتَّعْ
natamattaʿ
that we may delight
بِشُهُودٍ لِلْجَمَالِ وَالسَّنَا
bi-shuhūdin lil-jamāli wal-sanā
in witnessing beauty and radiance.

فِي مَقَامِ الْقُرْبِ نَطْعَمْ وَصْلَنَا
fī maqāmi l-qurbi naṭʿam waṣlanā
In the station of nearness may we taste our union
مِنْ حَبِيبٍ وَصْفُهُ (ثُمَّ دَنَا)
min ḥabībin waṣfuhū (thumma danā)
with a beloved described by “then he drew near”,
مَنْ تَجَمَّعْ
man tajammaʿ
in whom is gathered
فِيهِ كُلُّ الْحُسْنِ سِرًّا عَلَنَا
fīhi kullu l-ḥusni sirran ʿalanā
all beauty, in secret and openly.
9#
وَبِهِ ارْبُطْ كُلَّ حَالٍ حَبْلَنَا
wa-bihi rbuṭ kulla ḥālin ḥablanā
Bind our rope to him in every state,
فِي الدُّنَا وَبَرْزَخٍ وَحَشْرِنَا
fi l-dunā wa-barzakhin wa-ḥashrinā
in this world, the barzakh, and our resurrection,
وَبِأَرْفَعْ
wa-bi-arfaʿ
and in the highest
دَرَجِ الْفِرْدَوْسِ مَعْ أَصْحَابِنَا
daraji l-firdawsi maʿ aṣḥābinā
degrees of Paradise, with our companions,

رَبِّ مِنْ غَيْرِ امْتِحَانٍ أَوْ عَنَا
rabbi min ghayri mtiḥānin aw ʿanā
O Lord, without trial or hardship
أَوْ عَذَابٍ فِي هُنَاكَ أَوْ هُنَا
aw ʿadhābin fī hunāka aw hunā
or punishment, there or here.
رَبِّ فَاسْمَعْ
rabbi fasmaʿ
O Lord, hear us,
يَا وَسِيعَ الْجُودِ حَقِّقْ سُؤْلَنَا
yā wasīʿa l-jūdi ḥaqqiq suʾlanā
O You of vast generosity, fulfil our request.
11#
صَلِّ يَا رَبِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا
ṣalli yā rabbi ʿalā sayyidinā
Send blessings, O Lord, upon our master
أَحْمَدٍ وَآلِهْ مَطَالِعْ سَعْدِنَا
aḥmadin wa-ālih maṭāliʿ saʿdinā
Ahmad and his family, the risings of our good fortune,
غَيْثْ يَهْمَعْ
ghayth yahmaʿ
like pouring rain,
وَالصَّحَابَهْ وَالَّذِي قَدْ وَدَّنَا
wal-ṣaḥābah wa-lladhī qad waddanā
and upon the Companions, and whoever has loved us.
