Ya Alim as-Sir Minna - O Knower of our secrets
Chorus 1 #
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
O Knower of our inner-states,
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
wa ʿāfinā wa ʿfu ʿannā
Grant us ease and pardon us
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
wa kun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
and be with us wherever we are

يَارَبِّ يَـا عَـالِـمَ الحَـالْ
yārabbi yaā ʿaālimal ḥaāl
My Lord, Knower of all states,
إِلَيْكَ وَجَّهْتُ الآمَـالْ
ilayka wa jjahtul 'āmaāl
to you I direct all hopes
فَامْنُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِالإِقْبَالْ
fa āmnun ʿalaynā bil iqbāl
Bestow upon us your Divine attention,
وَكُنْ لَنَا وَاصْلِحِ البَالْ
wa kun lanā wa ṣliḥil bāl
be with us, and rectify the minds

ياَرَبِّ يَارَبَّ الأَرْبَابْ
īarabbi yārabbal arbāb
My Lord, O Lord of Lords!
عَبْدُكْ فَقِيرُكْ عَلَى البَابْ
ʿabduk faqīruk ʿalāl bāb
Your slave and impoverished one is at the door
أَتَى وَقَدْ بَتَّ الأَسْبَابْ
atā wa qad battal asbāb
He has come having severed all other means
مُسْتَدْرِكًا بَعْدَ مَا مَالْ
mustadrikan baʿda mā māl
seeking to make amends after having strayed

يَا وَاسِعَ الجُـودِ جُـودَكْ
yā wa siʿal juwdi juwdak
O Expansive in generosity, (we seek) Your generosity
الخَيْرُ خَيْرُكْ وَعِنْـدَكْ
alkhayru khayruk wa ʿindak
All good is Yours and possessed by You
فَـوْقَ الَّـذِي رَامَ عَبْدُكْ
fawqal ladhī rāma ʿabduk
(that which is) beyond what Your slave could seek.
فَادْرِكْ بِرَحْمَتِكْ فِي الحَالْ
fa ādrik biraḥmatik fīl ḥāl
So, repair with Your mercy right now

يَا مُوجِدَ الخَلْـقِ طُـرّاً
yā mūjidal khalqi ṭurrāan
O Originator of all creation!
وَمُوسِعَ الكُلِّ بِرّاً
wa mūsiʿal kulli birrāan
O Granter of all expansive kindness!
أَسْأَلُكَ إِسْبَالَ سَتْراً
asaluka isbāla satrāan
I ask that You cast down a veil
عَلَى القَبَائِحْ وَالْاخْطَالْ
ʿalāl qabā'iḥ wal ākhṭāl
upon all foul actions and foolishness

يَامَنْ يَرَى سِرَّ قَلْبِي
yāman yarā sirra qalbī
O One who sees the reality of my heart!
حَسْبِي اطِّلَاعُكَ حَسْبِي
ḥasbī āṭṭilāʿuka ḥasbī
Your awareness truly suffices me
فَامْحُ بِعَفْوِكَ ذَنْبِي
fa āmḥu biʿafwika dhanbī
So, erase with Your pardon my sin
واصْلِحْ قُصُودِي وَالأَعْمَالْ
wāṣliḥ quṣūdī wal aʿmāl
and make right my intentions and deeds

رَبِّى عَلَيْكَ اعْتِمَادِي
rabbi ʿalayka āʿtimādī
My Lord! Upon You is my reliance
كَمَا إِلَيْكَ اسْتِنَادِي
kamā ilayka āstinādī
as well as my dependence is in You
صِدْقاً وَأَقْصَـى مُرَادِي
ṣidqāan wa aqṣa murādī
- in truthfulness, and my furthest aim
رِضَاؤُكَ الدَّائِمُ الحَـالْ
riḍāukad dā'imul ḥaāl
is Your eternal sweet pleasure.

يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ إِنِّي
yā rabbi yā rabbi innī
My Lord, My Lord! Indeed I
أَسْأَلُكَ العَفْوَ عَنِّي
asalukal ʿafwa ʿannī
ask You to pardon me
وَلَمْ يَخِبْ فِيكَ ظَنِّي
wa lam yakhib fīka ẓannī
My opinion has never been at loss regarding You
يَا مَالِكَ الـمُلْكِ يَا وَالْ
yā mālikal mulki yā wal
O Owner of all dominion, O Guardian!

أَشْكُو إِلَيْكَ وَأَبْكِي
ashkū ilayka wa abkī
I complain to You, as I weep,
مِنْ شُؤْمِ ظُلْمِي وَإِفْكِي
min shumi ẓulmī wa ifkī
of the ills of my injustice and falsehood
وَسُوءِ فِعْلِي وَتَرْكِي
wa sū’i fiʿlī wa tarkī
and the evil of my deeds and my abandonment
وَشَهْوَةِ القِيـلِ وَالقَـالْ
wa shahwatil qīli wal qaāl
and of my whimsical speech
9 #
وَحُبِّ دُنْيَا ذَمِيمَةْ
wa ḥubbi dunyā dhamīmah
and (I complain) of love of this blameworthy world
مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ عَقِيمَةْ
min kulli khayrin ʿaqīmah
that is barren of any goodness
فِيهَا البَلَايَا مُقِيمَةْ
fīhāl balāyā muqīmah
In it all tribulations reside,
وَحَشْوُهَا آفَاتْ وَاشْغَالْ
wa ḥashwuhā āfāt wa shghāl
and it is filled with tribulations and preoccupation
10 #
يَا وَيْحَ نَفْسِي الغَوِيَّةْ
yā wa yḥa nafsīl ghawiyyah
O Woe to my soul that deceives
عَنِ السَّبِيلِ السَّوِيَّةْ
ʿanis sabīlis sawiyyah
from the straight path;
أَضْحَتْ تُرَوِّجْ عَلَيَّهْ
aḍḥat turawwij ʿalayyah
it continuously urges me
وَقَصْدُهَا الجَاهُ وَالـمَالْ
wa qaṣduhāl jāhu wal māl
and its aim is toward status and wealth
11 #
يَا رَبِّ قَدْ غَلَبَتْنِي
yā rabbi qad ghalabatnī
My Lord, it has overpowered me
وَبِالأَمَانِي سَبَتْنِي
wa bil amānī sabatnī
and imprisoned me with false hopes
وَفِي الحُظُوظِ كَبَتْنِي
wa fīl ḥuẓūẓi kabatnī
and in pleasures it has weakened me
وَقَيَّدَتْنِي بِالأَكْبَـالْ
wa qayyadatnī bil akbaāl
and shackled me in fetters
12 #
قَدِ اسْتَعَنْتُكَ رَبِّي
qadi āstaʿantuka rabbī
I seek Your assistance, my Lord,
عَلَى مُدَاوَاةِ قَلْبِي
ʿalā mudāwāti qalbī
in the treatment of my heart
وَحَلِّ عُقْدَةِ كَرْبِي
wa ḥalli ʿuqdati karbī
and the loosening of the knot of my affliction.
فَانْظُرْ إِلَى الغَمِّ يَنْجَالْ
fa ānẓur ilāl ghammi yanjāl
Look, then, at the sadness that circles.
13 #
يَا رَبِّ يَا خَيْرَ كَافِي
yā rabbi yā khayra kāfī
My Lord, O Best of those who suffice!
أَحْلِلْ عَلَيْنَـا العَوَافِي
aḥlil ʿalaynaāl ʿawāfī
Descend all ease upon us
فَلَيْسَ شَيْئْ ثَمَّ خَافِي
falaysa shayi' thamma khāfī
for there is nothing hidden
عَلَيْكَ تَفْصِيـلْ وَإِجْمَـالْ
ʿalayka tafṣīl wa ijmaāl
from You, small or large.
14 #
يَا رَبِّ عَبْدُكْ بِبَابِكْ
yā rabbi ʿabduk bibābik
My Lord, Your slave is at Your door.
يَخْشَى أَلِيمَ عَذَابِكْ
yakhshā alīma ʿadhābik
He fears the painfulness of Your torment
وَيَرْتَجِي لِثَوَابِكْ
wa yartajī lithawābik
and hopes for Your reward
وَغَيْثُ رَحْمَتِـكْ هَطَّالْ
wa ghaythu raḥmatik haṭṭāl
and the ever abundant downpour of Your mercy.
15 #
وَقَد أَتَاكَ بِـعُذْرِهْ
wa qad atāka biʿudhrih
He has come to You with his excuses,
وَبِانْكِسَارِهْ وَفَقْرِهْ
wa biānkisārih wa faqrih
his brokenness, and poverty,
فَاهْزِم بِيُسْرِكَ عُسْرِهْ
fa āhzim biyusrika ʿusrih
so defeat with ease from You his difficulty -
بِمَحْضِ جُودِكَ وَالإِفْضَالْ
bimaḥḍi jūdika wal ifḍāl
by Your sheer generosity and bounty.
16 #
وَامْنُنْ عَلَيْهِ بِتَوْبَةْ
wa mnun ʿalayhi bitawbah
Bless him to make such a repentance
تَغْسِلْهُ مِنْ كُلِّ حَوْبَةْ
taghsilhu min kulli ḥawbah
that washes him of all sin.
وَاعْصِمْـهُ مِـنْ شَرِّ أَوْبَةْ
wa ʿṣimhu min sharri awbah
Protect him from the evil consequences
لِكُلِّ مَا عَنْـهُ قَدْ حَالْ
likulli mā ʿanhu qad ḥāl
of all that has transpired from him.
17 #
فَأَنْتَ مَوْلَى الـمَوَالِي
fa anta mawlāl mawālī
For You are the Master of all
الـمُنْفَرِدْ بِالكَمَالِ
almunfarid bil kamāli
the Unique in perfection.
وَبِالعُلَا وَالتَّعَالِي
wa bil ʿulā wat taʿālī
In exaltation, and loftiness
عَلَوَْتَ عَنْ ضَرْبِ الأَمْثَالْ
ʿalawata ʿan ḍarbil amthāl
You are beyond any stricken example.
18 #
جُودُكْ وَفَضْلُكْ وَبِرُّكْ
jūduk wa faḍluk wa birruk
Your generosity, Your bounty, and Your kindness
يُرْجَى وَبَطْشُكْ وَقَهْرُكْ
yurjā wa baṭshuk wa qahruk
are hoped for; Your might and Your dominance
يُخْشَى وَذِكْرُكْ وِشُكْرَكْ
yukhshā wa dhikruk wishukrak
are feared; Your remembrance and Your gratitude
لَازِمْ وَحَمْدُكْ وَالِإجْلَالْ
lāzim wa ḥamduk wal iijlāl
are incumbent, as is Your praise and magnification.
19 #
يَا رَبِّ أَنْتَ نَصِيرِي
yā rabbi anta naṣīrī
My Lord, You are my helper.
فَلَقِّنِي كُلَّ خَيْرِي
falaqqinī kulla khayrī
Incite me all the good in me
وَاجْعَلْ جِنَانَكْ مَصِيرِي
wa jʿal jinānak maṣīrī
and make Your gardens my final abode
وَاخْتِمْ بِالإِيْمَانِ الآجَالْ
wa khtim bil iymānil 'ājāl
and seal with faith the lifespans.
20 #
وَصَلِّ فِي كُلِّ حَالَةْ
wa ṣalli fī kulli ḥālah
Send blessings in every state
عَلَى مُزِيلِ الضَّلَالَةْ
ʿalā muzīliḍ ḍalālah
upon he who effaced misguidance,
مَنْ كَلَّمَتْهُ الغَزَالَةْ
man kallamathul ghazālah
he to whom the gazelle spoke,
مُحَمَّدِ الهَـادِيِ الـدَّالْ
muḥammadil haādiyil ddāl
Muhammad, the guide, the leader
21 #
وَالحَمْدُ ِلِله شُكْرَا
wal ḥamdu ililh shukrā
And all praise is due to Allah along with gratitude
عَلَى نِعَـمْ مِنْهُ تَـتْرَى
ʿalā niʿam minhu tatrā
for all His blessings that never cease.
نَحْمَدْهُ سِرًّا وَجَهْرَا
naḥmadhu sirran wa jahrā
We praise Him privately and publicly
وَبِالغَدَايَا وَالآصَالْ
wa bil ghadāyā wal 'āṣāl
by morning and night.
