Yā Kathīra al-Malām - Oh Constant Blamer

يَا كَثِيرَ الْمَلَامْ
yā kathīra al-malām
O constant blamer
لَا تَلُمْنَا دَعْنَا
lā talumnā daʻnā
spare us your reproach

نَحْنُ أَهْلُ الْغَرَامُ
naḥnu ahl al-gharām
We are the people of love
كُلُّ مَعْنَى مَعْنَا
kullu maʻnā maʻnā
all meanings lie within us

نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ لَنَا
naḥnu qawmun lanā
We are people who possess
فِي الْمَعَانِي أَسْرَارْ
fī al-maʻānī asrār
secrets within meanings

الْهَوَى طَبْعُنَا
al-hawā ṭabʻunā
Passion defines us
وَالْوَلُوعْ وَالْأَذْكَارْ
wal-walūʻ wal-adhkār
and deep attachment and remembrance

وَالطَّرَبْ وَالْغِنَا
waṭ-ṭarab wal-ghinā
Ecstasy and singing
بِهْ تَزُولُ الْأَغْيَار
bih tazūlu al-aghyār
With them, otherness fades away

لاَ تُكَاثِرْ كَلَامُ
lā tukāthir kalām
Avoid speaking excessively (blame or advice)
الْعِذَارْ أَخْلَعْنَا
al-ʻidhār akhlaʻnā
we abandoned modesty (and professed our love)

رَقَّ مَعْنَى الْهَوَى
raqqa maʻnā al-hawā
The essence of love grew delicate
فِي النُّفُوسْ وَالْأَشْبَاحْ
fī al-nufūs wal-ashbāḥ
within souls and forms

وَظَهَرْ وَاحْتَـــوَىْ
waẓahar wa-iḥtawā
And it appeared and engulfed
فِي الصُّدُورْ وَالْأَرْوَاحْ
fī aṣ-ṣudūr wal-arwāḥ
In hearts and spirits
8#
يَا خَلِيَّ الْجَوَىْ
yā khalī al-jawā
O you free from love
لَوْ ذُقْتَ مِنْ ذِ الرَّاحِ
law dhūqta min dhi ar-rāḥ
If you tasted the wine
9#
يَا لَهُ مِنْ مُدَامْ
yā lahu min mudām
What a drink it is
مَنْ سَكِرْ بِهْ غَنَّى
man sakir bih ghannā
Whoever gets drunk on it sings

شَرِبُوهُ الْكِرَامْ
sharibūhu al-kirām
The noble drank it
وَلَهُمْ فِيهِ مَعْنَى
walahum fīhi maʻnā
And in it, they found meaning

خَمْراً صَافِيْ زُلَالْ
khamran ṣāfī zulāl
Pure, clear wine
لَيْسَهُ مِنْ أَعْنَابْ
laysahu min aʻnāb
Not from grapes
12#
شَاهَدوُهُ الرِّجَالْ
shāhadūhu ar-rijāl
Saints have witnessed Him
بِالْقُلُوبْ وَالْأَلْبَابْ
bil-qulūb wal-albāb
With hearts and minds
13#
خَصَّهُمْ ذُو الْجَلَالْ
khaṣṣahum dhū al-jalāl
The Lord of Majesty has favoured them
الْكَرِيْمُ الْوَهَابْ
al-karīm al-wahāb
The Generous, the Supreme Bestower
14#
بِالْهَنَا الْمُسْتَدَامْ
bil-hanā al-mustadām
With everlasting joy
إِذْا عَلَيْهِ المِيْنَ
idhā ʻalayhi al-mīn
For reliance is on Him
15#
هُمْ أُنَاسٌ كِرَامْ
hum unāsun kirām
They are noble people
فِيْ مَحَلٍ أَسْنَى
fī maḥall asna
In the most splendid place
